Every day I become more and more impressed with Vivaldi as a community-first company. They have made it so easy to engage with the community and have provided many ways of doing so. I was very surprised to see that they offer not only an instance of Mastodon with a maximum character count of 1337 (I see what you did there) and an email address to boot, but now I’m happy to discover they have a WordPress instance as well! For free!
The version of WordPress seems to have all the benefits of the regular WordPress.com instance. The only thing I’m not seeing is Markdown blocks but that’s not the end of the world. Sometimes I like to author my blog posts in an app like Obsidian or Notesnook where I have other features available like linking one note to another and tagging. The WordPress editor itself isn’t bad, I just like to use Markdown and I enjoy using its syntax to format my posts. Also, a markdown file can be exported/converted to html before copying and pasting, which will carry over its formatting in a WordPress post as long as HTML is activated.
I’m not an expert in WordPress but I know it isn’t your run of the mill blogging platform. It’s one of the most popular platforms for a reason. I’m still working out the kinks and I’d like to find an easier way to post from a markdown file. I’m sure eventually I’ll find the answer on Vivaldi’s Mastodon instance if not somewhere else in the community sphere. Just posting a few posts on social.vivaldi.net has got me in high spirits about creating an account here. And another great thing is they don’t make it so you can’t log into your account if you’re using a different browser. They just have these extra ways to engage and they don’t ask for anything back. I find that commendable.
The browser is quite nice now. Its addition of email and calendar integration almost makes Outlook redundant. The new Vivaldi is like a better Mozilla Thunderbird or Mozilla Seamonkey. It has all the features.
Anyway, that’s my first entry on this blog. Hopefully I’ll continue to be impressed with the Vivaldi social sphere and also the browser.

I definitely agree! Vivaldi is a wonderful browser, and the community is so easy to get into. Really easy to read others’ blog posts as well, the feed is the homepage of wpadmin. A lot of tech companies, especially ones that develop browsers, are scummy and lock things behind paywalls. Vivaldi does none of that, and it’s very welcomed.
Yes! I hate reading an article on Medium only to find it behind a paywall.
